DIY Easy Envelope Pillow Cover

I have a tutorial that is so easy and only takes 15 minutes to make: envelope pillows! You can have all new throw pillows for your couch or bed to liven up the place until Spring arrives. Just follow our step-by-step guide and you will find yourself wanting to make more of these.

Step 1:

Measure the pillow you intend to use the stuff inside the pillow cover. Measure from seam to seam to get the width and height of your pillow. If you purchase a pillow form, these dimensions will be listed on the packaging.

Step 2:

Once you have your dimensions for your pillow form, multiply the width X 2 and add 4 inches for seam allowance and overlap. So if your pillow is 18X18 (as we used in this tutorial), multiply 18X2 = 36 + 4= 40. The dimensions for your cut of fabric will be 18X40. We do not add anything to the height to keep it snug when inserting the pillow. Cut your fabric and if you use a certain print like chevron, make sure it is straight.

Step 3:

Once you have your fabric cut out, hem the two long ends – one with a 1/4″ hem and the other with a 1/2″ hem. Sew.

Step 4:

Now lay your fabric down right-side up and one long side facing you. Fold each end over about 9.5″, causing an overlap. You want your side with the 1/2″ seam folded over first. Once these are folded over, the fabric will measure 16″ from fold to fold. Hem the sides together in this position and sew the two long sides. (The first time I did this, I overlapped too far, making it only 15″ wide. It fits, but it is too snug.)

Step 5:

Once you have finished, clip each corner off at an angle then flip inside out.

Voila! You’re done!
